Additional Qualification Courses



The Halton Catholic District School Board has been accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)​ as a provider of the
Additional Qualification (AQ) Course: Religious Education in Catholic Schools, Part I.

This course meets the Ontario College of Teachers AQ course requirement of 125 hours.

Three sessions will run each year—fall, winter and spring. Currently, these courses are offered only to permanent or occasional teachers employed by HCDSB.


Fall 2017 Course Offerings

Religious Education in Catholic Schools, Part I begins on October 17, 2017 and will run until February 26, 2018.

This is a blended course, offering participants an opportunity to participate in both face-to-face and online learning. Click here for a complete description and requirements of the course. ​​

The AQ, Religious Education in Catholic Schools, Part II, will be offered in the Winter 2018 session.​

Course Fees

Permanent Teachers with HCDSB

The Halton Catholic District School Board will cover the cost of the Religious Education in Catholic Schools for permanent HCDSB teachers. Permanent teachers wishing to take the course will be required to pay a holding fee of $100.00 at the time of registration. This $100.00 fee will be reimbursed to the candidate upon successful completion of the course.

Occasional (OT) and Long-term Occasional (LTO) Teachers with HCDSB

The cost of AQ, Religious Education in Catholic Schools for Long-term Occasional and Occasional Teachers with the HCDSB is $550.00 per course. This fee is payable at the time of registration. LTOs and OTs who obtain permanent teaching positions with HCDSB will be reimbursed for the cost of the HCDSB AQ course in Religious Education in Catholic Schools, provided that they have proof of payment and proof of successful completion of the course.
